Privacy Policy

Effective date: August 2026

The short version

  • We collect what we need to run your account — not more than that.
  • We never sell or share your personal info (name, email, login) with anyone. Full stop.
  • Your recipes and formulas are yours. We don't sell them or hand them to sponsors.
  • Experiment/test results (what happened when you tried something) may be combined across users, stripped of anything identifying, and used to improve the app or shared with partners as aggregate trends — never as “here's what a specific user made.”
  • Sponsors never get to influence what shows up when you're identifying an ingredient. That tool only shows real matches.

What we collect

  • Account info — email, display name, and a login ID from Google or email sign-in. Basic role info (e.g. subscriber, admin).
  • Billing — handled by Stripe. We keep a reference to your subscription; we never see or store your card number.
  • What you build — recipes, formulas, bases, tasting cards, and experiment/test records you create in the app.
  • Forum activity — posts and topics you write in the community.
  • Basic usage data — page visits, referrers, and rough device/location info, collected through our own self-hosted analytics. Not a third-party ad tracker, and we don't do cross-site tracking.

How we use it

  • To run the app — log you in, save your work, process payments, show you your content.
  • To improve the app — understanding what people struggle with, what breaks, what doesn't work.
  • To talk to you — account and billing notices, and, if you opt in, product updates.

What we never do

  • Sell or rent your personal information (name, email, login, payment details) to anyone.
  • Sell or license your specific recipes or formulas to sponsors, advertisers, or other companies.
  • Let a sponsor or advertiser pay to appear as a “match” in a tool where accuracy matters, like ingredient identification. Sponsored content is always separated and labeled.

What we might do

Combine experiment/test outcomes — not the recipe or formula itself, the result, like “this direction made it firmer” or “this chocolate kept splitting” — across many users, strip out anything that identifies a person, and use the aggregate trends for our own research, product decisions, or to share insights with commercial partners.

We'll never do this in a way that's traceable back to your account, and we'll update this policy before we start if that changes materially.

Your choices

  • See and edit your saved content — recipes, formulas, bases, tasting cards and experiment records — from the tools where you created them, at any time.
  • Set your language and display preferences from your profile.
  • If you signed in with Google, your name and email come from that account — change them with Google and they update here. If you signed up by email, contact us at contact@soyouwanttobeachocolatier.com to change them. Either way we don't keep a separate editable copy.
  • Ask us to delete your account and associated personal data — email contact@soyouwanttobeachocolatier.com and we'll take care of it.
  • Opt out of non-essential emails at any time.

Kids

This app isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.

Security

We use standard safeguards (encrypted connections, access controls) to protect your data, but no system is 100% secure. We'll tell you if something goes wrong.

Changes

If we materially change how we handle your data, we'll update this page and, for significant changes, notify you directly.
